The Apple Special Event happened yesterday, and with it came the release of 3 new iPhones, an apple watch series update & a new 4K Apple TV.
There is a lot to talk about for all of us tech nerds. So today we are going to focus on the iPhone 8 and its new features and selling points. What is new for the iPhone 8 and what is Apple offering to make us upgrade this quarter?
The iPhone 8
The new iPhone 8… it looks a lot like the old. There are many mutterings that it is basically the iPhone 7s in all but name. It was always going to be hard to sell a new phone when the 7s was released only at the end of last year, and there are always complaints like this. People think nothing has changed and iPhone is holding back… This may be true this time, as the 8 was completely overshadowed by the reveal of the iPhone X only minutes later. All that being said, this is said to be the new iPhone for the masses, and there have been several pretty big changes & upgrades.
- Pre-orders: September 15
- Release Date: September 22
- Price: From $699, £699, AU$1,079 ($100 more for the plus)
Changes & Upgrades
The iPhone 7 plus introduced portrait mode which allowed for studio level photographs and lighting to be replicated in almost any environment. The iPhone 8 Plus further expands that functionality with a larger 12-megapixel camera sensor and a new portrait lighting mode that combines the smartphone’s flash and depth map to give those studio grade photographs. And the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus also boost high-speed video capture capabilities to 240 frames per second at 1080P HD.
All Glass Design
The entire phone is covered in durable glass, giving this new iPhone a beautiful glass sheen from all angles! It is rimmed in color-matched aluminium steal and comes in 3 colors; space grey, silver & gold… Lets hope the screens are truly un-crackable this time!
New 4.7‑inch and 5.5‑inch Retina HD displays for the iPhone 8 & 8s respectively.
Water & Dust Resistant
Now you can even use your iPhone in the shower, or in the desert, worry free!
No more pesky cables. Lets see if this catches on or if this wireless charging fad blows on by without ever becoming the new thing. This is one of the first smartphones to try and really push the wireless charging angle. Lets see where it goes.
Louder More Dynamic Speakers
Apple reports that the iPhone 8 is now 25% louder and can deliver those bass notes… Or you could get a portable speaker.
Log in with your thumb print, its not new but its still there.
So no real big surprises but a few upgrades. The iPhone 8 will obviously run quicker, the display will be better, and the camera is on the leading edge of what can be fit into a phone so small.
This is the phone for the average person who can’t afford the $1000 price tag but still want a quality product that looks good and performs well.
Although a hugely anticipated launch… It still wasn’t the star of the show. That was the iPhone X. Keep your eyes peeled for our next review!
