Blade Runner 2049: Another Replicant?

Blade Runner’s premiere has Sci-Fi fans and movie fans in general going wild. Besides a star-studded cast and a killer plot, what can fans expect? For those who missed the original cult classic delineated by Ridley’s Scott cinematic prowess… and every other reimagining, rest assured, you’re still for a treat.

Blade Runner: Are you excited yet?

Blade Runner 2049 is set to premiere on October 6th (for those living under a rock) and is directed by Denis Villeneuve. With a heralded cast including Ryan Gosling, Scarlett Johansson (SJo for the pop-culturally savvy) Ana de Armas and Harrison Ford (who is a Blade Runner OG). This ensures that even if you aren’t a part of the cult-following you can still bask in the visual glow that is set to be a stellar performance.

For those who don’t know, the Blade Runner films are inspired by the acclaimed novels by Philip K Dick, “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?”. Though the name “Blade Runner” never appears anywhere in the actual novel. Although, a treatment for it in 1974 coined the term, but was never accepted. But when Ridley took on crafting a film adaption in 1982, he scooped up the name that has now burrowed it into our Sci-Fi loving hearts.

Ridley Scott’s adaption has been lauded as a cult classic by critics and fans alike. A highly influential film that has been the brainchild, surreptitiously and overtly for many other directors and writers. Blade Runner carries an exciting sentiment for everyone who has cast a glance over the 117 minute trip into this alternative universe.

So what direction will the new movie take?

This sequel of the 35-year-old film, is expected to be a slight departure as, we can assume, it wants to break away from the first version into its own cinematic masterpiece. We can expect for the film to touch base with its roots. But ultimately it’s continuing on with a semi-related story of a detective in a dystopian world. Though most people are thrilled by this ‘comeback’ there are others who offer dismay. Some die-hard fans feel no sequel is needed. Why mess with movie perfection? Either way, it’s fair to write, a brush-up of the original might be worth your while and though in its core, it strikes similarities. This new film Blade Runner 2049, is going to be something entirely of its own.
